Directorate-General for Translation and Clear Language
The Directorate-General for Translation and Clear Language guarantees that content related to Parliament’s legislative, budgetary and scrutiny activities is accessible in all 24 EU official languages, ensuring transparency and legitimacy. It also provides linguistic services to ensure that Parliament’s communication with citizens is multilingual, clear, inclusive and accessible to everyone.
Its main tasks are:

- translating legislative documents, which become EU law;
- translating budgetary texts, supporting Parliament’s decisions on the EU budget;
- translating oversight documents, supporting Parliament’s scrutiny of EU institutions;
- translating audiovisual content, using for example subtitling and voice-over techniques;
- editing original documents to ensure that they are linguistically sound and clear;
- promoting the use of clear language in Parliament’s work;
- making multilingual content more accessible for people with disabilities.
