Directorate-General for Personnel

The Directorate-General for Personnel helps ensure that Parliament’s other directorates-general have the human resources necessary to carry out their work.

Its main tasks are:

managing Parliament’s human resources, i.e. the officials and political groupand other staff, in accordance with the regulations applicable to officials and other staff of the European Communities;
developing political strategies to improve women’s working conditions and promoting equal opportunities for each employee;
successfully running Parliament’s staff policy by keeping it under review and improving it if necessary, while meeting the challenge of the enlargement of the European Union;
giving staff access to vocational training (language training, training in management technique, IT training, etc.).

Director-General

Kristian KNUDSEN
- Kristian Knudsen holds a law degree. He was admitted to the bar (High Court) and worked as a lawyer in Denmark, where he also taught civil law and company law at university. He started his career in the European Institutions as a lawyer-linguist at the Court of Justice in 1991, he worked as a référendaire to the Danish Judge at the Court of First Instance, and joined the European Parliament in 2000. He was actively involved in the setting-up of the Directorate for Legislative Acts of the EP, where he became Head of Unit in 2008 and Director in 2010. In 2014, he was appointed Directorate-General i.a. for DG Presidency, and in 2016 he was Head of Cabinet to Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament. Since December 2016, he has been in charge of the Directorate-General for Personnel, first as acting Director-General and in December 2018 he was appointed Director-General. He speaks Danish, English, French and German.
